It was a most unusual massage.

Little painted model civil war soldiers

placed one by one on my back.

Then the war began,

and I felt my skin depress

as the hands moved each piece.

A soldier received a grave musket round to the femur

and was brought back to the sick tent for amputation.

It was hard to tell which side was winning

and if my masseuse cared for historical accuracy.
